So what’s the actual product?
“This project aims to not only provide people with an opportunity to offset their emissions, but to also provide members with a unique and rewarding experience - as they get amongst what they helped to achieve. ”
What you get
Members will receive carbon credits equivalent to the annual emissions of a medium household (approximately 15 tonnes per year) - generated by around 400 trees per membership.
Members will be entitled to exclusive access to the property, which will be no more than 2.5hrs from Melbourne. Between visits, members will be kept up to date on the property, including photos, information and growth data.
Members get exclusive rights to book camp sites on the property, each campsite comprising a fire pit, composting toilet and rain water tank. Properties will also include communal areas with BBQs and picnic tables.
Members get the opportunity to join a community of people to create something that helps the planet, is fun to be part of and provides an immensely rewarding experience.
Voluntary participation
Members and their families may choose to get their hands dirty by joining other members for a series of tree planting days.
Ongoing working bees and annual planting days will be available to members. There is no obligation to participate, but we hope people will really enjoy doing so.
Subject to various safety, practical and cultural considerations, members may have the opportunity to participate in low intensity controlled burns of the property.
Additional benefits under consideration
Subject to member demand and participation, CarbonFarms properties may host other activities and projects such as bee keeping, nesting box installation, horse riding, workshops, local produce sales etc.
Members may be able to host small events and get togethers on CarbonFarms properties.
CarbonFarms would always ensure quiet enjoyment to all members, so all events and activities will be subject to rules and restrictions.
What it costs
Members will be asked to pay a joining fee. The fee will be used to cover the cost of establishing around 400 trees (per membership), camp sites and regulatory costs.
Members will be asked to pay an annual fee to be part of the project. The fee will be used to cover the cost of maintenance and other costs such as insurance.
Visiting or camping at the property will incur NO additional charge.
Fees are still under analysis, but the joining fee is estimated to be between $1,500 and $2,500 per household membership. It is planned that the membership will be resalable (members can sell their membership to someone else if they choose, subject to conditions).
Annual fees are anticipated to be between $750 and $1,000 per year per household. That’s less than a coffee per day!
Carbon credit deliveries and memberships will last for as long as members want, up to 15 years. Members can sell and transfer their membership at any point during that time.
